Welcome

The research is looking to make connections between the various Queer communities and the Deaf and hearing impaired communities. The research hopes to find ways of making links between the Queer communities and the Deaf and hearing impaired communities as well as with the Blind and Vision-Impaired communities. The research also wishes to know if the advocacy and service organisations (e.g. Deaf Australia, Deafness Forum, Blind Citizens Australia, Vision Australia, etc) can assist the linking of these communities. Are these organisations able to have positive input or can they help to bridge the gaps between these communities to help improve the lifestyle or life experience of Australian citizens?

Separation and exclusion are problems that we should work together to overcome.

We are looking for Deaf and hearing impaired people to take this survey who identify themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, transvestite and/or "queer".

What is required of you as a participant?

Answer all or as many questions as you can.

Voluntary participation

Participation is voluntary, and anyone who wants to participate may refuse to answer questions, may withdraw from the study at any time without giving any reason and without affecting any relationship with the researcher of Griffith University. If you are not comfortable writing your answers and would prefer to have face-to-face (Australia only) Auslan interview, you can choose to do that by emailing Warwick Abrahams at warwick.abrahams@student.griffith.edu.au. A researcher will contact you to arrange an interview at your nearest city.

What will happen to the results of the study?

The findings of the study will be incorporate into a thesis to be submitted by 2009 for a Doctorate of Philosophy at Griffith University.
